How do you stretch a carpet?
• When peeling back the carpet, great care is taken to avoid damaging the carpet fibers and the underlying carpet underlay.
• Old carpet smooth edges may need to be replaced with new ones if they are worn out or crushed (with their nail points not properly angled to grip the carpet). When installing new smooth edges, it is recommended to use heavy leather work gloves. Tack strips are very sharp, so handling them properly is crucial to prevent deep cuts, and they should be disposed of in a thick bag.
• Stretching and readjusting the carpet is done after replacing all grippers. If the carpet underlay was removed, it should be stapled back to the floor or a new pad should be laid down before stretching the carpet.
•To properly stretch the carpet, use a Power stretcher as it requires significant force to restore the carpet to its original shape. By pulling the carpet out and stretching it over the smoothedge , securing it into the nails, you can effectively save the carpet.
